Overview

The HAPPY Project (Health, Abstinence, Peer education, and Positive Youth development) was designed to empower young people with the knowledge, skills, and confidence needed to make informed decisions about their sexual and reproductive health. Implemented across four Local Government Areas—Ibadan North, Ibadan North-East, Ido, and Akinyele—the project focused on abstinence, assertiveness training, and peer health education.

Objectives

  • To build the capacity of adolescents and young people in abstinence and assertiveness, equipping them to adopt responsible sexual and reproductive health behaviors.
  • To empower participants to serve as knowledgeable peer health educators in their communities, fostering a ripple effect of positive health choices among peers.

 Impact

  • Strengthened youth leadership in sexual and reproductive health education
  • Increased awareness and practice of healthy lifestyle choices among adolescents
  • Enhanced community-level advocacy through peer-led interventions

By engaging young people as both learners and leaders, the HAPPY Project contributed to healthier futures and community well-being in targeted LGAs.
