We commissioned the newly upgraded toilet facility in commemoration of World Toilet Day 2025 at Ayaba Alafia Catholic Primary School, Oke Bola. For us at Youthcare Development & Empowerment Initiative (YcDEI), this is part of our bigger mission to end school-based violence and create learning environments where every child feels safe, respected and protected. A clean and functional toilet may look simple, but it plays a huge role in restoring dignity, preventing bullying, reducing absenteeism, especially for girls, and making school a place children actually want to stay and learn.

This project was championed by our partner, Mr. Mac-Ikemenjima Dabesaki, on the Toilet Access Initiative inspired by Sity Senta, whose passion for child-friendly environments made us reflect on providing one of the basic amenities for the children we say we care about.
The event was attended by Mrs. Adeyomoye K.F., who represented the Executive Chairman, SUBEB Oyo State; Mrs. Bamigboye E.O. (Head of School, SUBEB); Mrs. Banjo Feyisayo (Ministry of Education); Rev. Fr. Paul Asanwale from St. Andrew Catholic Church; Mr. Adeshida Femi Adebiyi (P.T.A. Chairman); Pastor Olabisi Alabi Femi (P.T.A. Vice Chairman); the Headmistress; and other members of staff and students of Ayaba Alafia Catholic Primary School.

It was reiterated that the upgrading of the toilet at Ayaba Alafia Catholic Primary School was a wonderful project and that the government cannot do everything by themselves. Initiatives like this should continue and spread to other schools so as to groom the younger children coming up. It was also said that good hygiene was very important in all institutions and especially for the young children to prevent the spread of deadly diseases. Washing of hands goes a long way in securing the future of the young children.
Let us keep pushing for schools where a child can learn freely and be safe. We invite stakeholders, partners, government , school and even community members to collaborate with us in expanding this initiative across more schools across that state and across Nigeria.
